Visiting art galleries always lifts me up. Today I took in the newly opened exhibitions at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (one & two) in Edinburgh – totally recommend them!

This morning I woke up in the worst mood, I felt like there was an actual storm cloud following me around! It was a beautiful day so there was nothing else for it… I took myself off to the beautiful, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art to see what was on!
Turner Prize nominated: Monster Chetwynd
Starting off at Modern one there was the Now exhibition. This featured an eclectic exhibition showcasing four artists, including Turner prize nominated Monster Chetwynd. A particular highlight for me were the intriguing and humorous collages of Moyna Flannigan – I really loved them, and they certainly helped lift me out of the funk I was in! – Look at that rich blue!

I especially love these galleries as the architecture and layout is so stunning and grandiose. It’s the perfect backdrop both inside and out, and the fact the exhibitions are free is the cherry on top! Next up I headed over the road to Modern two for the exhibition: I want to be a Machine. I was really looking forward to this one as it combined two quite different exhibitions under one roof. THE face of the pop art movement: Andy Warhol, along with Scottish sculptor: Eduardo Paolozzi (yes, Scottish!).
Although a more intimate collection of works it was certainly well worth a look, I especially liked Warhol’s photo prints of Grace Kelly, the cow and of course, Marilyn!
As for Paolozzi’s works- i’m always a sucker for his intricate and bold screen prints, of which there was many!
After a tour of the exhibitions and a quick coffee, I headed down to Stockbridge, to the Royal Circus Mews’ Lane which has to be one of the prettiest streets in town! With a lighter step and a mood now matching the glorious Edinburgh sunshine, I headed home after receiving my Art fix – The best medicine!
